In late 2005 my grandfather passed away, before his death he said I could have the house here in FL that we lived in. The estate is still in my grandfathers name and his blood son is the one who has to sign any paperwork when I sell the house. I need to know if I have to pay an estate tax or not? The property at his time of death and all belongings did not total more than 150K and that’s giving it a really high figure. I am trying to sell the house now for 70K
Please help, moneys tight as it is lol, don’t need more taxes.
Oh and yes I have resided here for 10 years, both during his life and after his death and it’s now been nearly 2 yrs since death. So that means I don’t have to pay any death or inheritence tax?

This is for my microeconomics class, and I really don’t think the teacher gave quite enough info to get the answer…I don’t know if she means federal or local government, for example.
At any rate, I can’t find this on my own so I am hoping someone knows the answer (or where to find it) and can direct me to a website where I can get more info.
Thanks!
