My grandmother recently passed away leaving her house to my cousin. He has no job and no way of taking care of this house. The taxes on the property have not been payed in 7 years. There is no lien against the house, so what is it that I have been hearing about tax sales. If I pay these back due taxes, do I have ownership to the home? Or what other rights will it give me?

Obama and Hillary both want a 50% estate tax…does that mean half of my estate would go to taxes? If I put my kids on my deed, wouldn’t they just already own it? Do you have to notify anyone to put their names on the house?
What about monetary assets, do those pass to them if their names are jointly on the accounts? How does this work?

I do not think a 50% estate tax is fair, especially since I have a handicapped child.

With Estate Taxes, if the cutoff is 1 million , is everything in the estate tax at 55% or just the portion that is over the 1 million ?

I just bought a house in August. And was filing my 2009 taxes and was wondering if I was able to claim my real estate taxes (property taxes, winter and summer) that were paid by me from the closing costs.
