estate tax
Kent C asked:

To my surprise, I have recently found out that the government has been imposing an inheritance tax which looks to me to be a bit outrageous. According to this information, anyone inheriting an estate valued over $2,000,000 would have at LEAST 55% of it taken as “tax” by the federal govt. I was just wondering if I’m the only one who finds this utterly insane?

  • Mike O:

We should get rid of the estate tax and only tax the capital gain as we would any other transfer of property.

Of course, this would be a much higher tax but what the hell, we have to pay the national debt.

Estate tax was championed by the robber barons of the early 20th century. It was a tax cut from the then much higher capital gains taxes.

The rich to make money when you have money isnt it if people could pass 100 of their children at.
The rich to stay rich regardless of hard work or intelligence.
For the rich regardless of hard work or intelligence.

    It’s theft.

If you have it coming you don’t like it. If you don’t have it coming you think it’s OK to impose it on others.
